Truck: 6th-scale Flatty Trail Jeep. Owner: Rbgerrish - Portland, OR Stats: 1/6 scale GIJOE jeep... More to come! Buildup:
Here's the original deal, but the one I got was used at a Flea Market for $4.
I stripped the body apart, cleaned it, and on went the paint. It's getting "Saddle Tan," Georgia Clay," and Black.
The stock tan cans get the 'correct' red color. The body, coming along...
Black pinstriping tape on the hood.
Most of the cage mocked up. I still have to add the little reenforcement piecees.
The Jerry can and Spare mounted. The spare will be a narrowed Masher 2k, while the truck will ride on Moab 2.2"s. The Clod axles and Lathe motors.
Hood hinges from Home Depot, painted black.
The cage, welded and painted.
Installed
After looking at the Jeep mocked up, I felt that the 2.2 Moabs were just a hair too small. I switched to narrowed Imex All-T's, and in my opinion they are the perfect scale for the big jeep body! I hacked out the front of the underpan to give clearance to the Clod axle. Planning the sub frame. Mocking up the steel sub frame. The bumper.
Planning the rear axle clearance.
The rear cut, and the axle spaced beneath it.
Here you can see the sub-frame all welded up, and the rest of the underside of the body cut and smoothed.
The links attached to the subframe and the body.
To make the wheelbase realistic and to keep good approach and departure angles, I had to stretch the front and rear ends. This neccesitated cutting the rear wheel arches.
Rear suspension from the top.
Here you can see the lower links of the front and rear ends secured to the chassis braces.
I welded on support tabs to hold down the horizontal bumper/servo mount Kydex sections.
The kydex sections attached, sandwitching the steel.
Painted front section.
Inside of fenders painted black, like they are line-x'd.
The winch mounted under the hood.
The rear fenders curing.
Spare and Jerry can. I just need one RCRG rock ring for the spare.
Borrowed the Fire Extinguisher from the Courier.
Steering setup. Here you can see how the real servo winch is lined up with the Warn lexan winch. I'll build a real fairled to replace the lexan one once I get everything hooked up.
Headlights, interior lights and tail lights are installed.
Battery pack and temporary spot for the yellow lights. I might end up making them rock lights instead of interior lights.
The bumper bar, bent with it's 'feet'.
Welded, painted and installed.
Some of the new "ORCRC" Stickers
